Job Description:
This position involves the sampling, weighing, testing and grading of whole grains including corn and soybeans. Applicant will work as part of close knit team to provide these services to elevators and cooperatives in the designated service area. D.R. Schaal Agency in based in Belmond, Iowa and has been in business since 1947.
D.R. Schaal provides inspection services across Northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota, with branch offices in New Jersey, South Carolina and Georgia. The applicant will work primarily in the Belmond office but will have ample opportunity for travel to the other branch locations. Work hours will vary by job assignment and the applicant will be placed in a weekend work rotation. There is limited flexibility in the schedule and standard overtime pay applies after 40 hours worked along with paid holidays, and there are bonuses involved for weekend work.
Applicant will be eligible for health insurance after 60 days of full time employment. Applicant also receives 1 week paid vacation after 6 months and 2 weeks after 1 year.
Duties for the applicant will include traveling to grain elevators and operating automatic grain sampling equipment during train loading operations. Applicant will also be trained in inspection technician functions including: operation of a moisture meter, calculation of grain test weight and other criteria as outlined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Applicant will be provided with all necessary training by the experienced D.R. Schaal staff and be required to take an online proficiency test after the training period is over.
The Applicant need not have prior grain experience, but will need to be able to tolerate dusty environments and have basic computer skills, along with attention to detail for accurate record keeping. Jobs will be inside for the most part and will be climate controlled, however some locations will be hot or cold, depending on the season, and dirty. The Applicant will need the ability to climb a ladder and carry up to 30 pounds.
Applicant will need a clean driving record and valid drivers license, along with reliable transportation to the office in Belmond. Applicant will need to complete a conflict of interest form and a pre-employment physical and drug screen at the expense of the company.
